Guess what..?
Guess what…?
My kids are gamers too, yep.
They game, they rage and get upset as well
They shut down and get quiet when a game doesn’t go as planned
Or if they catch a random headshot on Fortnite from a “random” they’re playing against…(as my son refers to as - non-friend competitor)
I say that to say this…
I slip up from time to time and tell him to shut it down take a break I don’t want to hear him upset…
But, that usually doesn’t help; it didn’t provide him a solution, it was more me just shutting it down
So what I’ve learned and always have to remind myself is this; provide a subtle alternative
One he’s unaware of what your intentions are so there is no push back…
Our creek is flowing like nobody’s business after all the storms, so I said the following…
“Hey, pop let’s hit the park real quick check out the creek, the ranger opened it back up and maybe we can skip rocks…”
He said, “fine…”
My intentions were to get him away from the computer, out to the fresh air and mind off the game he just lost…
I never mentioned it once…
On the way there I asked him how many Giants games he wanted to see this year?
He said at least 4 or 5 so I had him type on my phone notepad the teams he wanted to see them play…
He got excited naming names (another diversion) but honestly one I could use when I go to buy tickets…but non the less a diversion
Then we got to the park, saw the creek, then skipped and threw rocks for about 15 mins…laughing and playing…
His spirits were lifted, day was saved and now we’re off to baseball practice.
Dads, you got this…💪🏼🦁❤️
